About this activity
Chocolate making is a workshop, not a chocolate fountain — the distinction matters, because guests make something rather than queue for something. A host brings couverture, moulds and toppings, and each participant fills, decorates and boxes their own chocolates. It is the most immediately rewarding activity here, for obvious reasons.
How it runs
- A host handles the melting and tempering, which is the part that needs equipment and judgement.
- Participants spoon chocolate into moulds and add their own toppings and inclusions.
- Moulds are set aside to firm up while the group decorates boxes or wrappers.
- Each participant boxes up their own finished chocolates to take home.
Which ages it suits
From around four upward with supervision, and popular well into adulthood. Younger children need help with the pouring stage but manage the decorating happily on their own. Because it involves food, this is the one activity where you should collect allergy information from guests in advance — nut, dairy and gluten exposure all need to be flagged when you enquire so the host can plan around it.
Space and setup you'll need
A table and chairs, a covered surface, and — importantly — a reasonably cool room. Chocolate work does not go well in a warm room or direct sunlight, so an air-conditioned space or a shaded indoor area is worth arranging. A power point near the table is usually needed for melting equipment. Access to a tap for sticky hands is welcome.
What everyone takes home
Each participant takes home a box of the chocolates they made and decorated. It doubles as the party favour, which is worth factoring in if you were planning separate return gifts.
Decorations that pair well
It sits especially well with first-birthday and baby-shower celebrations, where the guest mix skews toward adults and older siblings who can take part properly.
- Lavender Teddy First Birthday Backdrop
- Cocomelon Rainbow First Birthday Stage
- Oh Baby Pastel Fairy Light Wall

Questions people ask
What about allergies?
This is the one activity here where you should collect allergy information from guests in advance. Nut, dairy and gluten exposure all need flagging when you enquire so the host can plan around it. Please do not leave this to the day.
Does the room need to be cool?
Yes, and it matters more than people expect. Chocolate does not set properly in a warm room or direct sunlight, so an air-conditioned or shaded indoor space is worth arranging deliberately.
Is it a chocolate fountain?
No — this is a workshop, not a fountain. Guests mould, decorate and box their own chocolates rather than queueing to dip fruit. If a fountain is what you had in mind, say so and we will look at options.
Do the chocolates survive the journey home?
Each participant boxes their own, which helps. In warm weather they travel better with a cool bag, so it is worth suggesting that to parents.
